Research on the Legend Brace

DonJoy Legend Knee Brace

DonJoy Legend
Knee Brace

A recently published study, in the American Journal of Sports Medicine1, has documented the efficacy of the DonJoy Legend Brace for people with ACL injuries. The researchers examined the effects of the brace on 11 people who had a special transducer implanted into their ACL at the time of surgery (we don't recommend this for you viewers at home!). This is a very accurate method for testing ligament strain. The subjects knees were tested with and without the brace.

Findings

The authors found that:

  • The brace significantly decreased anterior shear loads up to 130N. Anterior shear loads are the primary loads that cause a feeling of instability/giving way in people with ACL tears.
  • Internal torque strain of the tibia (twisting in of the leg) was significantly decreased while wearing the Legend brace.

Conclusions

The DonJoy Legend brace significantly lowers the strain on the ACL. This is useful for people who

  1. have had their knee reconstructed and want to protect the graft when they return to sports and
  2. for persons who have not undergone a reconstruction and want to help to prevent their knee from giving way.
